India, often referred to as the cradle of civilization, is a nation with an ancient and diverse heritage. The Indian subcontinent has been the birthplace of numerous cultures, regions, philosophies, and arts, all of which have left an indelible mark on the collective identity of the nation. India heritage is a rich tapestry, woven with threads of historical events , spiritual beliefs, and artistic expressions, which has evolved over thousand of year.

Religious and Philosophical Heritage :
India's religious and philosophical heritage is one of its most defining characteristics. It is the birthplace, Buddhism, Jainism , and Sikhism. Each of these religions has contributed significantly to the philosophical thought and ethical systems of the India people. The Vedas , Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and the teachings of Buddha and Mahavira have shaped the Indian ethos, promoting values like non-violence, tolerance and the pursuit of truth.

Architectural Heritage:
India's architectural heritage is a testament of its historical and cultural richness. From the intricate carvings of the ancient temples of khajuraho and grandeur of Mughal architecture ,as seen in the Taj Mahal to the colonial-era buildings, Indian architecture tells a vibrant story of cultural synthesis and evolution. These architectural marvels are not just constructions of stone and mortar , they are embodiments of the aesthetic sensibilities, religious beliefs, and technological advancements of their times.

Heritage Sites Protection : The heritage sites in India are protected by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, which was amended in 2010. As per this law it protects the following.
1. Heritage sites
2. monuments
3. Archaeological sites
4. Sculptures

Reason behind Deterioration: There a various reason behind the deterioration of Heritage sites. The main factors for deterioration are Natural Causes and Anthropogenic Causes.
